From the Assumption to the Birthday of Our Lady: Celebrating Mary, Our Mother

The month of August brings us a beautiful reminder of the special place Mary holds in the life of the Church. On August 15, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, rejoicing in the belief that Mary was taken body and soul into heavenly glory at the end of her earthly life.

As we continue from the celebration of her Assumption, the Church now looks forward to another joyful Marian feast — the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated on September 8.

Mary’s life is a beautiful story of faith, humility, obedience, and love. From her humble “yes” to God at the Annunciation to her presence at the foot of the Cross, Mary remained faithful to God’s will. She became the Mother of Jesus and, in a special way, a spiritual mother to all Christians.

The Assumption reminds us of the destiny promised to those who remain faithful to God, while the celebration of Mary’s birth invites us to reflect on the beginning of the life of the woman chosen to become the Mother of our Saviour.

As Mary’s birthday approaches, let us turn our hearts toward her with gratitude and love. May she continue to lead us closer to her Son, Jesus Christ, and teach us to say “yes” to God with the same faith and humility that marked her life.

Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother!

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.”
