Walking With Christ Through Lent

As we step into Lent each year, this sacred 40-day journey in the Catholic Church—from Ash Wednesday right up to the Easter Vigil—feels like a personal invitation for us to echo Jesus’ time in the desert, drawing us closer to Him through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It’s a season that strips away distractions (Sundays aside from the count), urging us to reflect on our shortcomings, embrace humility, and build real anticipation for the joy of Resurrection Sunday, often with simple practices like skipping meat on Fridays or walking the Stations of the Cross. What strikes us most during Mass is the priests in their deep purple (or violet) vestments, a color that whispers of penance, mourning for sin, and quiet preparation—though it shifts to red on Palm Sunday and Good Friday to honour Christ’s Passion.
